always side vents
i prefer not to deal in absolutes, but here is one that is indeed always true. the three options you have are no vent, center vent, or side vents. besides being the most contemporary look, side vents have more upside with regard to function. with your hands in your pockets, your jacket lays flat. when you sit down, it doesn't bunch up and wrinkle. so if any part of your day includes putting your hands in your pockets or sitting down, always tell your tailor you want side vents.

zero weight jacket
spring is officially here and summer is hurtling toward us; time to get rolling with the spring/summer wardrobe. start with a zero weight jacket. also called a french faced or unlined jacket, it's the perfect addition to a well rounded wardrobe. there is only a tiny bit of lining in the shoulder blade area, the rest of the jacket is ready for air to pass through and keep you light, cool, and comfortable. dress it up with a tie and an unlined pair of linen or doeskin pants for a summer wedding, or throw it on with jeans for a quick weekend jaunt. seersucker (as pictured) or linen fabric is best; with patch pockets to keep it versatile.

dress up vest up
want to take your wardrobe to the next level? a simple way to start is by getting vests with your suits. adding value and versatility to your closet has never been so easy. go to lunch sans jacket and still be appropriately attired. wonderful for those warm days when you prefer to look sharp and yet be a few degrees cooler. it also shows the world that, yes, you do care about your appearance. ideal is 5 button vest with no lapels and a same cloth back, keep it clean.
